Let me just start by saying I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. Seriously this was such a fantastic book! It was hilarious and meaningful and just a great idea. It breaks the fourth wall so the author is talking directly to you at parts in the book and the personality that comes through it just amazing. Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl is by Jesse Andrews and he really just knocks it out of the park with this one. As he states at the beginning of the book it is not your typical book about cancer. The main character (who breaks the fourth wall), Greg, does not learn a sappy lesson and become a better person by the end of the book. In fact he pretty much repeats how awful of the person he is multiple times in the book.
The characters are all equally hilarious. Greg’s best friend, Earl is probably the most entertaining. At the same time though you hate the characters too. It was weird liking the character and going to hating them the next page and then right back to liking them the next chapter. Andrews also writes about background story without it feeling like boring background story. In fact those were some of my favorite parts of the book. There were points where I would be laughing out loud while I read the book. This book was absolutely fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend it!
